Fwd: [eoi-english-2013-ni2c:32] Class summary for November 20th, 2013 Hi everyone, First, we started the class by reviewing the mea

Very neat and to the point!

[1] Aquí un ejemplo de como no usamos artículo si después dices número de ejercicio o página. Un poco antes en la misma frase te despistas, pero después está bien.

Hi everyone,

First, we started the class by reviewing the meaning of some words and their family words such as:

Wisdom: the abillity to use your knowledge and experience to make good decisions and judgments. (Prudencia, sabiduría).
  • words of wisdom: consejos
  • wise: sabio/bia
  • wise guy: listillo
  • wise man: hombre sabio

Next, we learned 'lull' (calmar, adormecer)
The lull before the storm.

In addition, we completed -the exercice 3a and listened to exercice 3b [1] on page 17.
In both we practiced some prefixes such as over and under.
e.g. I´m overworked and underpaid.

In the listening, the following prefixes appeared too:
preschool, anti-smoking, non-smoking, postgraduate, postdegree, self-centred and self-critical.

Other prefixes we studied were:
  • overcome: sobreponerse, superar
  • overtake: adelantar(se)
  • prearrange (arrange: organizar) and proactive: anticiparse a una situación antes de que ocurra
  • self-centred: egocéntrico

After that, we read the quotes on page 18 about happiness and we practiced the speaking +exercise below.
Vocabulary:
  • aim: objetivo
  • purpose: razón, objetivo
  • to chase: perseguir
  • softly: delicadamente
  • nap: siesta
  • to seek: buscar
  • in learning to enjoy less: aprender a disfrutar con menos
  • daydreaming: soñar despierto

Apart from this, we saw -another +other vocabulary:
  • bigot, bigoted: intolerante
  • bigotry: intolerancia, fanatismo
  • to last out: resistir, aguantar
  • curtain: telón
  • breach: infracción, incumplimiento (an act of breaching a law, promise...)
  • sound: robusto (in good condition)
  • miserable: triste, abatido (very unhappy)
  • to spend money like water: manirroto (con el dinero)

See you
