Fwd: [eoi-english-2013-ni2c:28] Class Summary for November 13th

Thanks, Merche, very useful indeed!

[1] Cuando damos el número del ejercicio, la página, etc, normalmente ya no se usa el artículo. Y para los números de página usamos los numerales (dieciséis) no los ordinales (decimosexta).

Hi classmates,

I´m Merche and it´s my turn this time. I´m going to write a brief summary of the  class.

We started by correcting the exercice Key words for writing Otherwise, other than, apart from, and Practice of the worksheet 01 WRITING GIVING ADVICE.

Later, we approached -the [1] unit 02 UPS AND DOWNS, in our student´s book on page 16th [1] by reading the text "TRACK YOUR FEELINGS" and we examined some words in the text:

-          self-aware= to be conscious, good knowledge and judgment about yourself
-          bleeps= pitidos
-          afterwards=  después
-          recollects= recuerdos (memories)  Verb recollect= recordar
We saw different uses of the verbs Claim and Reclaim:
-          To claim= to say that something is true or is a fact, although you cannot prove it and other people might not believe in.
-          To claim + that (reivindicar, afirmar) (The company claims (that) it is not responsible for the pollution in the river).
-          To claim + to + infinitve: ( He claims to have met the president but I don´t believe him
All parties claimed success in yesterday´s elections.)
-          To reclaim = reclamar, recuperar: To reclaim your suitcase. To reclaim lost territory

"-Complain +Complaints Form" = hoja de reclamaciones

After that, we continued with the exercise Vocabulary and Speaking on the same page:
1  Reading the facts and working in groups and discussing.
2 a and b: Answering the questions and again working in pairs.

The teacher Jose Luis pointed out the meanings of some -different adjectives:

-          amused= entretenido
-          awkward= incómodo, inadecuado  (an awkard position/situation)
-          grumpy= gruñón, de mal humor
-          nervous= nervioso ( estar nervioso/ ponerse nervioso: I´m nervous/ I get nervous)
-          panicky= feeling suddenly very worried or frightened, a pnicking
feeling/expression/action ( Is he the panicky type?)
-          upset= alterado/disgustado/afectado

In -the exercise number 3a on page 17th We ticked the situations on the list that were relevant in our lives and spoke about three more situations that we often find ourselves in.
Jose Luis emphasized the meaning of the expression "attending a large family gathering" = pequeña reunion familiar, and gave  some examples of some quantifiers:

-          dead (adjective)= muerto/ dormido/desconectado;
-          dead (adverb)= muy/completamente. Examples : This book is dead good/ I´m dead sure
-          dead (infor)=" por nada del mundo". Example: I wouldn´t be caught dead in a tie like that.
And another five examples more: extremely, definitely, quite, very, reasonably

Subsequently we chose two adjectives to describe our feelings in the situations in exercise 3a, rating the strength of the feelings from 1 (weak – intensidad débil) to 5 (strong- intensidad fuerte) and (we) [sí, puedes omitir este pronombre si quieres] spoke about them.

Finally Jose Luis handed out a -[photocopied sheet] + a worksheet for homework:  02 WRITING LETTERS OF COMPLAINT and for five o ten minutes we were talking in groups about questions 1, 2 and 3  of the first exercise on this page to introduce the new work item.

(The teacher reminded us that we had class on Friday)

I hope you find it useful.
See you in class

Merche
