Fwd: [eoi-english-2013-ni2a:31] Class summary for November 14th

Thanks, Marta.

We need to review better, to avoid any -ED or -S slips!

Don't use "the" when you also say the exercise or page number.

Hello guys:

At first, we corrected homerowk about 'otherwise', 'other than' an 'apart from'.
The teacher explained the different between these key words for writing.
'Apart from' and 'other than' are use to add, but 'otherwise' is used to add but there is often a contrast between the two options you present.

For example:
"The Chinese restaurant in Havana Road is Ok. Other than that, there are a couple of decent pizerrias" (The two opcions are good)

--> We use otherwise too to say that if you do X you something bad will happen
"I´d buy Time Off magazine, if I were you, Otherwise, yo´ll miss out on alll London has to offer"

After that, we -continue +continueD the lesson +and started -the Unit 2 of the student´s book (pages 16 and 17). We read the introductory text and we -debate +DEBATED  about the topic -propose +proposed. This was 'The feelings'. The text was about a phone app which -track +trackS your feelings. We worked in pairs with -the exercice 2a and 2b. We -[were practicing] +[PRACTICED with] adjetives and adverbs.
We learnt words as amused or awkward (an awkward situation = una situación incómoda)...and we had a lively -disccussion +discussion about the word 'panicky'.

While we were discussing the fire alarm -sounded +[went off]. All students got up and went to the street. Then we were told that it was a fire drill.

Finally, as [??? back ???] in class, JP confessed that +he feels extremely 'confident' [una alternativa sería "confessed feeling extremely ....] when he drinks. And so we learned that courage was a binge duth [?? Dutch courage ??].

We learnt news [HORROR: esto aquí es un adjetivo!!!]  expressions:
- 'small talk' and 'small hour' (charla sin importancia / la madrugada)
- 'serves you right' ( "te está bien empleado")
- 'commuting to and from work or college ( trayecto de ida y vuelta al trabajo o colegio)

The end. See you this afternoon.
